An open letter...

I have never been a regular blogger, but I love to wright something when I feel spontaneously the pinch of my inner feelings in my own self. We have registered under Indian marriage act, just a couple of days before. And this is a blog that is dedicated to my (Would be?) Husband Ayan.
A very handsome man and I feel in some extent he is far better than me, in some practical issues. Our story has been started from Bharat Matrimony, when I have got bitter experiences from my past and was not ready to get involve with any CREATURE!
In such a situation I met him and some of his attitudes and minimum mannerism attracted me towards him. I became eager to know that is it a CREATURE or a Man actually! Other than my Dad he proved that the word CREATURE is not applicable for every male.
Some times some of his attitudes use to hurt me but I am a girl of Steel. So ignoring everything, my search for the perfect man in him continues. I knew it that every person have some defects and imperfections. I do have that. But that is not the scale to judge a man. And so with this imperfections I became ready to accept him as my partner . But for that it was mandatory to win Ayan's trust. I must say that it was the toughest time i this journey. From my personal experience I can say that only a girlfriend or wife of a Ph. D Scholar knows that what frustration is actually, under the guidance of Calcutta University. I have experienced
it every second because he is a Ph. D Scholar and being his partner I had to share his problems.
But it was my challenge too, that I will proof myself trustworthy. Because truly, situation was not in our favor.
Every time the problem appeared in different shapes and from different persons. We became anxious that how to handle the situation. It became a heavy pressure for me. But in this matter I became stone hard in my situation. I am thankful to my parents that though they have realized that the situation is not in my favor while I am standing with Ayan, yet they have supported me. And every day I use to get the power to hold him in that adverse situations.
But it is said that bad times never lust long. It became true. slowly the situations came under our control. we became able to convince our parents that we will be happy if we hold each other's hand. I am thankful to this adverse situations also, because these problems took us closer.
With this everything we decided to stay togather, for ever. Our family also supported him . But still the tension was not over. It's been so long, when we have smiled tension free. But I had full faith on my God, and with the blessing of that almighty, the problems started to be solved. My Ayan has got his ultimate reward. He is going abroad for his job. And I have also got my reward. It's Ayan's trust. He trust me blindly, which I can even feel.
He is so handsome, though I call him a ghost. Because his activities are just unbelievable. One can not have any Idea that what mischief he is going to happen. And the most mischievous mischief was when he told me that he want to marry me, so that he can do all those ghost like activities life long and he thinks I am the only person who can tolerate them.
And It happened! Mentally we were prepare for long time, but now with the blessings of our parents and family, we became the unbreakable pair for lifelong, legally.
Ayan always thinks that I only quarrel with him without compromising. but that idiot doesn't know that I can tolerate every mischief by him, but can not compromise with anything that is harmful for him. Because I love that ghost a lot.

My Friends and My Love.....

Friends are the very essential part of our lives.  They loves us, they teaches us, they console us, they schooled us and they guides us. And they are very much attached with our heart. And Love is the feeling that comes from the core of one's heart. It is the only place where an individual get peace, satisfaction and joy.

Before A Traditional BharatnatyamThillana Dance Competition
From my part, I fall in love at very early age of mine and the love is Music with Rhythm. At the age of 2, I fall in love with it. yes, it is Dance, and the Music.... I got the music in my voice from my ancestors. Music is hereditary in me. From my childhood days I use to sing myself while working or doing something and Dance was one of my regular household practices. Actually there was a reason behind my dance practice. At my early age my mom faced a lot of problems to feed me. I never liked to take any kind of food, so my mother thought that if I do exercise everyday, I will definitely be hungry and the problem will be solved. So she admitted me at that age in the dance class of to learn "Bharatnatyam" and later for my own interest I went to Dr. Chunilaal Ghosh, a student of Birju Maharaj, the great personality in the world of "Katthak", to learn the dance.

In a competition
In an international program
From then Rhythm
became my favorite companion. In this context I wanna say about a tragic time of my life when I have spent long 7 years, without any friend any company of my family for some reasons. At the days of my loneliness, in the pensive mood Dance and it's rhythm was the only companion and it taught me to be steady at that very time.
From that time I can't think my existence without my Dance. After that I joined "Calcutta Choir" a well known Art Academy of Kolkata, where the forerunner was Guru Shambhu Bhattacharya, the Dance choreographer of "Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne" one of the milestones in the history of Bengali Cinema, directed by Satyajit Ray. I came in touch of an another great personality in the world of Music this time, in Calcutta Choir. Kalyan Sen Barat, the great music director. He is the present director of Calcutta Choir. But currently I am not attached with any of these places just for my work pressure, but It is the another half of my life still now.

Friends Forever
And to fulfill the another half of my life my friends also contributed a lot. yes these friends are from my College time, and they completed me, with the sweetness of music. At the 2nd year of my 3 years Grad course, I met them and from that time they are an essential part of my life. Now we are a group, which is fulfilled like a hand. That means in a hand there are 5 figures, we don't need more figures to complete it and the absence of any one among the 5 create problems. We are exactly five, but one of us is currently very busy so now we are four literally. There were more members in this team but after the time went in its own way we remain five, and now four.
(From Left) Rony, Aniruddha, Ishan

We have performed in many programs together, and slowly created a band. We use to jam and with gossips and chit chat we practice music. This music and friendship has tied us up in the same string. There is an interesting fact about us five.

We five friends are Ishan Dutta who is also known as "NENGTI" that means Mouse...for his little attire, Aniruddha Mukherjee, Rony Paul, Ananya Majumder and Jagmohan Singh...who is formally and mostly known as Jhonny. So everybody in our college told that we r the "E-Group". Because the names of the members of this group finished with "E" accent, e.g. Nengti(TI), Aniruddha (ANI), Rony (NY), Ananya (ANNIE) and Jhonny (NY).

In various programs

In our college our group was self completed a group, where Synthesizer player, Rhythmer, Guitarist, Vocalists, Dancer, Anchor everybody was present. So all the programs in our college was performed by us and we have done the performances outsides also. The friendship, rhythm, music mingled in our life totally. We use to gather in Ishan Da's house and
In Rehearsal
start the planning of a program or rehearsal or the simple chit chat and jamming with music.

Other than this we are very close to each other. We sometimes go for photography in many places as Ishan Da and I have special interest in photography, and we take Aniruddha Da and Rony with us in the journey, or sometimes we go out just for simple fun.
At Eco Park

The time passes and our friendship becomes deeper. In a hard time of my life these friends came and show me the light, they took me in the world, where is no pain, no tears... but only happiness, eternal peace and the limitless joyfulness. We are the inhabitants of that world, we are happy....very happy in our own created world. When we gather we each and everybody just forget our problems and pains sinking in the ocean of music and rhythm.

At last, but not least I want to say that I am very much attached with my love and my friends, they are an important portion of my existence. And we will remain like this forever. Because
                                           "Ye Dosti Hum nahi Todenge,
Todenge, Dam Agar..... Tera Sath Na Chodenge!"

The Last Ray of Festivity in My House...... Raash

How do you feel when the festival is over? Don't you feel that this time is so boring and don't you remember the festive time? Don't you miss the lights, the music and the happiness? I feel.... everybody feels, because we like the festivity and that's why we try to keep the charm within us.

Today I'm going to share a very personal happiness of mine embracing the festival. It is the last ray of that festive mood that we carry from the Durga Puja and Diwali. The extended form of festivity takes the attire of a worship in our house and once more makes us smile.

It is "Raash" that we celebrate in our house every year. Listening the name Raash one should think about the Worship of Lord Krishna, as mostly in this pious full moon day Lord Krishna and Goddess Radhika is being worshiped. But in our house we worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Narayana in this full moon day. Most of the Bengali Families worship Goddess Laxmi at the "Kojagari" full moon just after Durga Puja. But we have shifted the program at Raash for some reasons.

We also worshiped Goddess Laxmi before at the Kojagari full moon before when my Grandma was alive and my Mom was a new member of our family. But afterwards it was stopped for various reasons and some family problems. So it was needed to start the ritual again. But at that day of Kojagari maximum people and our relatives use to be busy. So nobody is able to come to another's place. . So my mom decided to start the ritual again in this day. because firstly, it is a day when nobody usually do it and could be able to come to
another's place, secondly it is a national holiday because it is also th Birth day of Shikh lord, Guru Nanak, and thirdly she decided to keep the last ray of festivity in her home for that particular year by this.

We worship Lord Shiva, at the morning and then Lord Narayana and Goddess Laxmi at the evening time wit another Gods.

At the early morning of that day I sing in front of Lord Shiva taking bath and wearing a new dress.
It is the ritual of our family that the eldest of the maiden of the family will sing at the early morning to awake Lord Shiva. And in the present time being the eldest maiden girl of the family I do the ritual. Then I lit an oil lamp and put the idol of Lord Shiva in front of that and after getting the hit, we believe he becomes ready to bath. This bath is called "Maha Snan". At first enlightening the lamps of oil and Ghee and burning  Fragrance sticks and with the mixture of Green Coconut water, Honey, Raw Milk, Sweet Curd, Ghee with some Siddhi... a type of leaf of a plant he is being bathed. This mixture is called "Pancha Gabya" . Then he is being bathed in the Sandal wood fragrant water and last of all with the Ganges water. We keep the Pancha gabya very carefully because we keep water less starving for the whole day and we break it after finishing the worship with this.

The next step is to arrange the foods and another things for the ritual. And before that to make the designs on floor which is known as "Alpana", not only to decorate, but also because we believe that in that design the foot steps we make, Goddess Laxmi will step on that and will enter in our house with her husband. Other than that I prepare the worshiping place arranging the foods and another essential goods.

At the other side my mom and my aunts taking bath and wearing clean sarees cooks the food which are known as "Bhog".  At first they makes "Charu" which is for Lord Shiva, because he is a sage. It is made with milk and scented rice but having no sweet in that.  Then the food for Lord Narayana. For him they make "Pulav" and 7 types of fried vegetables with three types of cooked vegetables as curry, and "Paramannya". For Goddess Laxmi they make "Khichdi" and white rice, Hilsha fish and in an another plate the fried head portion of the Hilsha. God Ganapati is given Laddu and Paramannya to eat, and Goddess Durga is also given white Rice with Hilsha with the fried head portion of the fish but she is not given Khichdi. And in every dish without Ganapati's dish sour item that is known as Chatni and a piece of scented lemon is given. At last they are given  "Paan" as the mouth Freshner. We buy a pair of Hilsha that day to give them to the two Goddesses.
And from all the veg items they make an another plate for Lord Shiva. But they do it very carefully because they are always alert about the vessels. No vessel can touch the another one. Otherwise all the foods would be unholy if the non veg item like fish touches the vegetable items.

At the evening time the married women of the family comes at the worship room wearing new Sarees, "Aalta" in their feet, "Sindur"  in their parting of hair and ornaments. These are the symbols of married Hindu women. They blows conchs to evoke and welcome Lord Narayana and Goddess Laxmi in house. And then the prist worships them by offering the foods and another things to the Gods. In our house it is ritual to get a priest from the family, because we are Brahmin and It is the ritual of our family not to allow anyone else to worship our Gods other than the family members, and that's why my uncle do it.

After finishing the worship we ask the Gods to stay at least 2 and 1/2 days in our place and for that we do not dislocate or even touch the "Mangal Ghat" which is actually a pot full ogf water and decorated by mango leaves and Green coconut. It is believed  to be the heart of Gods.

And then by the married women of our house the married women, who are not of our family are given Paan, Beetle Nut, Sindur and Haldi with Mastered Oil that has been dedicated to Goddess Laxmi.

After finishing the rituals the priest gives the water of peace and finally the worshiping completes.

And while the all rituals get completed the married women blows conchs ones again and finish the rituals.

And Me??? I use to take a deep breath after all the rituals over and think "Asche bochor aabar hobe".

The festival of light... Diwali!!!!

The Bengali says Goodbye to Goddess Durga with tearful eyes and after that waits eagerly for the Goddess of wealth and prosperity....Laxmi. At the full moon after Durgapuja  Laxmipuja starts in the every house of Bengal. And while it get over, once again the people waits for the next lovely and big an event......Diwali, the Festival of Lights. For Bengali Diwali comes with the worshiping of Goddess Kalika. There are so many events around this Diwali or Deepabali. "Diwali or Deepabali" that means the row of lamps... The lamps bit darkness as well as the unholy everything. This festival is the tale of victory of goodness over the bad. The darkness is the unholy power and the light is the symbol of good power, the holiness.

There are so many mythical stories embracing the festival. The Bengali celebrates Kaali Puja, the peoples out of Bengal celebrates Dhanteras which is now celebrated also by Bengali, some Bengali families worship the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity, Devi Laxmi. Some non Bengali families worship the God of Wealth Kuber. Behind each of the celebration there are some mythical stories there.
The First story is of Goddess Kali. The name Kaali has many different meanings.
1. "Kaal" is the another name of Lord Shiva and being his better half she is "Kaali".
2. "Kaal" means the time, And Kaali is the power that comes every time to get victory over the time and the unholy evil power.
3. Kaali means  the lady who's complexion is Dark. Kaali is black or blue in her complexion. Not fair. But this dark  Goddess who is the another attire Lovely, Fair and full of Heavenly beauty...... Goddess Durga. And her physical darkness gets victory over the Power of literal darkness and brings light. That's why a famous Bengali Folk lore poet wrote a lovely lyric, considering the Goddess as his own little daughter....
"Kaalo meyer payer tolay,
  Dekhe ja aalor nachon
The darkness is our innocence, the evil within us. And the the little flames of oil lamps are symbolically the flag of victory over these all.
There is a story behind this worshiping of Goddess Kaali, who is also known as Tara, Bhavatarini, Adya Shakti, Chinna Masta, Shyama and many other names. While there was a fierce battle within the Gods and Devils according to Hindu Mythology.... a devil born with a special power to defeat Gods. The devil was known as "RAKTABEEJ" that means the devil who has the power to give birth thousands more devils from his blood like him having the same power. If one single drop of his blood touches the soil, thousand more devils got birth from that and starts fighting. This created a big problem for the Gods and they got confused about the victory over them. Then they started to worship the Eternal ancient power the "Adi Shakti" who is the wife of lord Shiva. Devi Parvati.....Daughter of the King of Mountains Himlaya. She is Goddess Durga in her one attire and killed the Buffalo Demon "Mahishashur" and rescued the world from the massacre. She then took the fierce attire of Kaali and started killing the demons. Fighting for a long time, she had no attention towards her dress and when she saw that she is naked, she pick some cut hands of that demons up and made a garland to cover the lower portion and made garland of the cut heads and wear it around her neck. She then became more fierce and ordered her lady soldiers to lick and drink the blood of the each demons. She herself also did the same and her face full of blood became more fierce. At that very time the goddess became insane and started killing the innocent people also. Seeing that the Goddess is going to destroy the universe her husband Lord Shiva came to the battlefield to rescue the universe and to stop her.  He then laid down on the ground and unknowingly the insane Goddess put her foot on his chest.
Seeing that she got ashamed and as it is mostly practiced by Hindus to show tongue out if there is a reason to be ashamed, she also stopped there by showing her tongue. From then she got worshiped in this pose.
There are so many real stories there around her works till now. In the picture this is the Kaali idol of Dakshineswar where it is told that the Goddess herself told to Rani Rashmani, the founder of the temple to make the temple in that place.
At the night of Kali Puja the Bengali people decorate their homes with lights and lamps, to welcome the dark Goddess to get victory over the Dark power.

Other than this tale of Goddess Kali there are some another tales. One of them is the Tale of Rama, the king of Ayodhya killed the evil-hearted  Ravana the King of Devils in Lanka. After his victory when he returned back to Ayodhya after 14 years, the citizen of Ayodhya welcomed King Rama, his wife Queen Janaki and his brother Prince Laxman by enlighten their homes with the lamps and it was the same day of Bengali's Kali Puja.
There is an another story embracing this day. This is also a myth. It is also a myth of "DHANTERAS".             Once upon a time there was a king who had a beautiful daughter who was very wise and intelligent. But once she came to know a prediction about her marriage night. That her husband will die on her marriage cot at the marriage night, Knowing that the brave and intelligent Princess, at her marriage night put all of her ornaments, all the metals of household around the room where the new Bride and Groom were going to spent the first night. And she lit thousands of lamps within the room. The lights of that lamps fall on the metals and had the huge glowing reflection and for that vast reflection the God of death became unable to enter the room and took her husband's life. Like this she saved her husband in that very night.
In the memory of this particular story the Indian families use to buy ornaments, or any kind of metal in any attire as they consider it holy to bring metal on the day of Dhanteras. They use to made colour art with dust colours, flowers and lamps which are known as "RANGOLI". The people use to burn crackers and the dark night sky becomes colourful and enlighten by the fireworks....This is the holy hour for some families to worship Goddess Laxmi in this night.. This is the celebration of light, it is the victory over the darkness. The victory over the evils, darkness, black, pains, and innocence within us.... This is the day to wash our selves and taking an oath in front of the fire to be holy, to make everything holy, to make everything happy. And to say Happy Diwali once again wiping the tears.....

Sarodotsav... the key to happiness!!!!

have you ever heard about Utopian happiness? That leaving all the pains, problems, tensions people are just enjoying uninterrupted happiness.... yes I feel. Every year. The four days of Sarodotsav, that means in the time of Durga Puja.  The happiness comes like a wave and just disappear within a short time. You must say that there are 4 days you have to feel it, but I feel that these 4 days usually pass out like a dream come in night incredible. The whole nature takes the preparation of happiness, to serve happiness to the children of nature. The nature's Queen Autumn this time dresses like the new bride
with the ornaments of Golden Sunlight. She wears the crown of blue sky with white clouds in them. She makes her hair with the ornaments of Kaash, the milky white flower. perfumes herself with the fragrance of Shefali and the Lotus in her hand makes her Glorious in attire and Grand in look.
With this charming makeover nature and her children waits and welcomes the superior heavenly Mother... Goddess Durga in the earth, every year. Durga puja or the worship of Goddess Durga is very important and essential for the emotions of Bengali people as well as their economy. This is the only festival when the Bengali traders makes their 90% profit. This is the economical aspect of the festival. But the emotional aspect is more essential for them.
Bengali people thinks that Goddess Durga who is also known as Uma is their own daughter. She comes to her father's home after one year with her four children Ganapati, Kartikeya, Laxmi and Saraswati from Kailash. She stays from Maha Panchami to Mahanavami. that means 4 days and then at Bijaya Dashami she returns back to her Husband's home. Once upon a time the Bengali girls got married in very early age and they had to stay long at their Husbands' house and they got the permission to go to their Fathers' home just for these four days of Durga Puja. That time the girls got the best welcome and treatment at their father's home as they came after a year. Like that in Hindu mythology Goddess Durga who's another name is Uma was the Younger daughter of Giriraj (King of Mountains) Himalaya's two beloved Daughters.... Ganga (The river Ganga) and Uma. She got married with the God of the Gods Shiva. But Shiva is a saint and he will never be able to give her the luxurious life and comfort in which the Princess Uma born and brought up. So her mother Queen Menaka became upset and every year when she comes in her Father's Home with her children, mother Menaka gives her the best thing that she loved at her maidenhood.
The both events real and mythological are very similar no? The Bengali girls of ancient days and Princess Uma.... Both of their position is same. That's why some where the Heavenly Goddess of myth and the simple Bengali girl's position merges, mingles and converge  in a same way. A Girl is somebody's darling Daughter, somebody's beloved wife and somebody's loving mother. The Goddess and a simple girl of this earthen world stays in the same platform this time. So the emotional value of this festival is too much for Bengalies as their Daughter is coming.
This four days Bengalies worship Goddess Durga with
many rituals, sacrifices and with the pure love for her. The priests spells Sanskrit hymns to welcome her, to worship her and enlighten  the sacred fire which is known as "Yangnya". The priests offers her the foods, drinks, ornaments, clothes, flowers and other things essential for her through the hymns. And then the "Aarati" they do to please her with the Ballad made with Sanskrit hymns which is the description of her magnificent heavenly beauty, glory and power;  and asks her blessings for everyone's health, victory, prosperity and happiness saying " Roopang dehi, Jayang dehi, Yasho dehi, Dwisho jahi ".
These four days the people use to float in the weave of happiness and joy. And then the last day that means Bijaya Dashami comes. The priests spell the hymns with heavy heart. Every body says that this day Goddess Durga also shed tears, as she is returning to her Husband's house.  The Bengali women prepare her with a lovely and heart touching ritual named "Baran".
When a mother sends her daughter in her husband's home, she use to wipe her tears, prepare her with many ornaments, essence and many other things that flourish her beauty. The Bengali Women also shows their love wiping her face with "Paan", then wipe her tearful eyes with their own cloth's "Aanchal" put turmeric and mustard oil on her cheeks, Sindur in the parting of her hair, gives sweetmeats in her mouth, gives "Paan" as the mouth freshner in her hand and in tearful eyes says  "I will wait for you daughter. Please come after a year with my grand children." The eternal Mother Daughter relation gets it's zenith this time when the heavenly goddess becomes an unwilling daughter who is weeping and the very simple lady of earth becomes her loving Mother. This ritual comes from ancient days. And after that the Bengali people pleases her with the dance taking the smoke vessel "Dhunuchi" in hand after that they took the idol towards a river or pond with a beautiful procession and float the idol as they are sending her towards her home.
The four days are so much important for the community. As this is the time to live their lives once again. Forgetting all the pains of the years, leaving the tension behind. The community lives a life of Utopian happiness among the earth itself.
So at last biding everyone Goodbye for today and wishing Subho Bijoya I finish this post for today. May Goddess Durga shower happiness, blessings and prosperity over you and your family.
